Welcome to Riverdale Grade School

Welcome to Riverdale Grade School, founded in 1888 and abounding with tradition. Here, students learn to be thoughtful in their education, about each other and for their community.

Riverdale benefits greatly from valuable parent involvement and the tireless work of two support organizations – the Riverdale School Foundation and the Riverdale Parent Teacher Club. We are excited to share with you our current successes, along with our identified and achievable hopes for our school. These hopes and dreams include hearty curriculum initiatives that are currently underway, as well as an eye on improved access to instructional technology and incorporating the elements of the Coalition of Essential Schools.

In the spring of the 2013-2014 school year, Riverdale School District embarked on a visioning process that resulted in formalizing the Riverdale School District Strategic Priorities for 2013-14 through 2017-18. This plan helps guide our work ensures we keep an eye on our long-term vision. At Riverdale Grade School, our current curriculum priorities include successful implementation of an aligned K-8th grade math curriculum (see “Making math fun”), instilling a love of reading and literature for all ages, and using technology to enhance classroom instruction. We hold steady a culture of safe, respectful and responsible students through the use of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS).

As a Coalition of Essential Schools member, we focus on the Ten Common Principles of CES. From our preschool to our 8th grade class, opportunities for learning to use one’s mind well are countless. Riverdale School District maintains the priority of preserving students’ access to the artsmusic and library and competitive sports (Riverdale athletics are available in grades 5-8). Riverdale Grade School students experience extensive artistic learning opportunities and a strong program for musical expression. Additionally, field trips and overnight field studies programs (off-campus experiences ranging from living-history overnighters to week-long geological studies at the foot of an active volcano to the capstone field study – four plays in four days at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland) are carefully planned to extend learning beyond the classroom walls.

As you consider Riverdale Grade School as an option for your family, please keep in mind the various avenues for becoming a student in our school. You can learn more under the Enrollment tab.
