RHS Field Studies
The last time Riverdale High School Field Studies took place was in 2019, and though many changes occurred to make it possible again, we’d like to thank everyone who made these amazing trips happen this year. A significant amount of work goes into planning these weeklong trips, and we are so glad we were able to offer these learning opportunities for our students.
Some highlights so far include:
Arts students screenprinted their own unique shirt designs at a local Publishing Resource Center. Zodiac students learned sail theory with the captain aboard The Schooner Zodiac. The Readers & Writers group spent hours in a silent retreat writing and reading free from their electronics. 9th graders volunteered at multiple locations, planting trees in Tryon Creek, sorting used electronics at Free Geek and serving food at Blanchet House - among many other things. The Golf group drove, chipped and putted their way through local golf courses in the sun, rain and snow.
The STEM group had a study session with a pediatric cardiologist, learned how stents work and used an ultrasound to see a student’s heart. Spanish Film students created their own telenovela, using professional equipment and green screens. Their finished product was shown today at the Hollywood Theatre to 9th graders.
We look forward to sharing more details from their adventures in upcoming enews.
