Community Meeting Announcements

  • Community Meeting takes place most Wednesdays throughout the school year, as an opportunity to gather as a school and share important news and announcements. Following each Community Meeting, a summary of the announcements will be posted to this page.

    If you would like to make an announcement at a future Community Meeting, please fill out one of the slips posted outside Principal Robinson's office.

    1. Boys Basketball Playoff Rooter Bus- Mr. Pridemore- Signed permission slips and payment to take the rooter bus to the game tomorrow are due in by 9am to the front desk (permission slips are also available at the front desk). If we don’t receive 25 permission slips by 9am, we won’t be able to use the bus and you will need to make other arrangements. Students riding the bus will need to be ready in the main lobby by 4:45pm. 

    If we win this game, we are guaranteed to go to state! We need to be loud and proud- go Mavs!

    2. USSR Frisbee Fridays- Cameron B., River S. and Matt R.- We will have another frisbee Friday this week, after school in the back field. Girls’ basketball is over should all be there ;)

    Everyone is welcome! Be there or be square! 

    3. Student Advocacy Union- Eddie H., Nathan C. and Sylvain R.- Our next meeting is this Friday during lunch in Mr. Thompson’s room. We’ll be talking about ideas for better uses for advisory.

    4. Maverick Club- Noah C. and McKenna L.- The winter dance is next Friday! You can get your tickets at tonight’s performance of The Tolstoy Story Play for a special price of $8- come and support drama and come to the dance!

    5. Creative Writing Elective Offering- Mr. McLain- There is a new creative writing elective being offered next trimester that will focus on world building in SciFi, fantasy and speculative fiction. Let Cheryl know if you’re interested.

    6. MCSU- Sylvain R.- Our next meeting is Tuesday (2/25) during lunch in Mr. Thompson’s room. We will be discussing the wage gap and its contribution to systematic racism. 

    7. Climate Change Club- Tess H. and Kitty F.- Our next meeting is Tuesday (2/25) during lunch in Ms. Olguin’s room. We will be choosing the type of plant to be planted in our school garden. Go Mavs!

    8. Drama- J B. and McKenna L.- Tonight is our 2nd and closing performance of The Tolstoy Story Play at Lakewood Theatre at 7pm. Student tickets are $7; adult tickets are $10. It’s a really fun show- come for a great time!

    9. Youth Mental Health Forum- Mr. Thompson- Youth mental health is one of the most important issues facing our communities, yet adults are making the decisions. Policy makers want to hear from you about your ideas for solutions. Please join Commissioner Sharon Meieran and US Senator Ron Wyden for a listening session to raise awareness and empower youth voice. Service hours are available :) Breakfast and lunch will be provided for this 10am-1pm Saturday opportunity (2/22/2020).
