Enrollment Options
Non-Resident Enrollment
Enrollment OptionsNon-resident students may enroll at Riverdale via two options: an inter-district transfer or by paying tuition. Enrollment is subject to available space, as detailed here.

Inter-district transfers
- Your home school district may release your student to attend another district, allowing your state funding to follow you, so you can attend Riverdale at no cost. Some districts may not release any students, so check with your home district about their policies.
- To request a transfer:
- work directly with your home district and follow their process as early as possible, as transfer lottery timelines are often not advertised.
- Note: a transfer from your home district does not guarantee admission to Riverdale. You will still need to secure a spot through our enrollment lottery.
- All inter-district transfer approvals must be received in writing by the Riverdale District Office by June 1, 2026, in order to be considered for the 2026-27' school year.

Tuition
-
Tuition is an option for families who are unable to get an inter-district transfer.
Either option requires you to complete the Enrollment Process and participate in our enrollment lottery. As a public school, this is the process required by state legislation.

Please contact our Enrollment Coordinator, Hilary Chandler, at 503-262-4847 or by email if you have additional questions about the process.

New Resident Introduction
Enrollment for New Residents
Welcome to Riverdale! We are thrilled to have your family join our community. A special welcome to our incoming Kindergarten families who are just beginning their educational journey with us—we can't wait to meet you!
Resident students are those whose families live within the Riverdale School District boundaries in Portland, Oregon. Resident students can attend kindergarten through 12th grade in our district at no charge.
To help make your transition as smooth as possible, please follow the steps below to begin the enrollment process.
K-12 Resident Enrollment Process
1. Check Your Boundaries: First, please make sure to verify that your address is located within the district boundaries.
2. Introduce Your Family: Parents or guardians of new students should submit a [New Resident Introduction Form] as soon as possible.
- Please Note: Completing this form does not officially register your student for school. It simply introduces your family to the district. You must complete the verification step below with our Enrollment Coordinator before filling out an official registration form.
3. Verify Residency: Next, our Enrollment Coordinator will review your submission and confirm that your address is within our district boundary. To verify your residency, please provide documents showing your name and address, such as:
-
Closing papers
-
Rental agreement
-
Utility bill
