Non-Resident Enrollment

Enrollment Options for Non-Residents (Kindergarten & 9th-12th) for 2023-24 School Year

  • Riverdale School District is accepting non-resident lottery applications at our grade school for Kindergarten and at our high school for 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade for the 2023-24 school year.

Non-resident students may be able to attend Riverdale on a tuition basis or through an inter-district transfer, on a space available basis, as illustrated below.

    Inter-district transfers

Inter-district transfers mean that your home district releases you to attend another school district, and your state funds follow you. This option would allow you to attend Riverdale at no charge. Every district has its own rules when it comes to inter-district transfers. While a few schools easily grant releases, most require you to participate in a transfer lottery for a limited number of spaces.

You will need to work directly with your home district and follow the steps in their request process. You'll want to start doing this right away, as most districts do not advertise their transfer lottery timelines. A transfer from your home district does not guarantee entrance to Riverdale. You must still earn a place in our enrollment lottery.

NOTE: All inter-district transfer approvals must be received in writing by the Riverdale District Office by June 1, 2023, in order to be considered for the 2023-24 school year. This deadline is in accordance with our budgeting process.

    Tuition

Tuition is an option for families who are unable to get an inter-district transfer, yet wish to invest in their child's education at Riverdale. View Riverdale's tuition schedule.

Either option requires you to complete the process outlined below, and participate in our enrollment lottery. We know this may seem complicated but, as a public school, this is the process required by state legislation. Please contact our enrollment coordinator, Hilary Chandler, at 503-262-4847 or by email if you have additional questions about the process.

    APPLY NOW

Enrollment request process for non-resident Kindergarten & 9th-12th grade students

For the 2023-24 school year, we will be opening spaces in Kindergarten and 9th-12th grade using the APPLY NOW form.

STEP ONE: Submit a request for enrollment

The deadline for request forms for the 2023-24 school year is Feb. 24, 2023.

    STEP TWO: Lottery drawing

During the lottery process, Enrollment Request Forms received by the deadline are drawn in random order until capacity is reached. After capacity is reached, the lottery process continues until all enrollment forms are pulled and numbered according to the pull order and become the waiting list.

    STEP THREE: Notification

Notification of enrollment or waiting list status will take place in March (March 8, 2023) of each year. Families should be prepared to commit to a spot within a tight timeline once they are notified of acceptance.

    STEP FOUR: Contract and Deposit

Enrollment letters/contracts must be returned in order to secure your spot for the following school year.
