Bullying Policy & Reporting

  • Be Safe
  • Be Respectful
  • Be Responsible

Riverdale is committed to providing safe and supportive environments in which our students can learn and grow. As a community of educators, we are therefore committed to educating our students about appropriate behavior. We are further committed to identifying instances of bullying and/or harassment  in our schools and addressing those instances.

We know that bullying and harassment will sometimes occur in schools. We understand that children, from the youngest elementary students to high school young adults, will experiment with various social behaviors, even negative ones. We know that good kids will make poor decisions at times. And we know that children who find themselves the targets and victims of bullying need our support and need to know that the adults in their lives will do everything they can to put an end to this behavior.

Report concerns:

If your child experiences or witnesses bullying, please report it to Riverdale administration. Reports can be made by students, families, or staff and are handled promptly.

Riverdale School District has specific policies prohibiting bullying and harassment within our school community.

October is National Bullying Prevention Month

We want every student to feel seen and supported. Families can help— if you’re looking for practical, easy-to-use tools, check out the Parent Playbook from The Choose Kindness Project.

Here are some ways you can support your student:

  • Talk early and often: Ask open questions like, “Who did you eat lunch with today?” or “Did anyone feel left out?”
  • Help name the difference: Use resources like the Parent Playbook to explore how conflict, mean moments, and bullying differ.
  • Practice upstander moves: Role-play safe responses—include someone, distract the situation, get help, or say “That’s not okay.”
  • Build empathy and connection: Encourage inclusive invitations and noticing when peers may need a friend.
  • Report concerns: If your child experiences or witnesses bullying, report it to Riverdale administration.

Together, we can continue building a culture of kindness, safety, and respect at Riverdale!
