    Dear Parents,

This Friday, April 24, we have a Teacher Work Day planned on the academic calendar. Please look for information from your teacher regarding activities and assignments for the week. Also, you're invited! How 'bout a Friday Field Trip to the Great Barrier Reef in Australia? The blue button below is a document with wonderful links and suggested activities. While the credit goes to my friend Lindsay Walker, a 2nd Grade Teacher in Sherwood, the links and beauty of the images can be enjoyed by all ages.

Great Barrier Reef Virtual Field Trip
Thank you to over 30 8th grade families for picking up student items last Friday. The system ran smoothly. We will continue to have 8th grade items available at the 7th grade pickup window this Friday, April 24 from 10 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Please note the slightly adjusted time. When you receive your items, please take a moment to look through them and make sure belongings are yours. If there are items, such as RGS books you no longer need, please let Tanya Steele know and place them back on the cart (using safe social distancing). Also, we will have both 5th and 6th grade class items available on May 1 and May 8 for pickup. Stay tuned for a confirmed time. If you need an alternate pickup time, please connect with Suzanne Bevier.

With that, I thank you all for your participation in our Distance Learning programming. We value the ongoing feedback and the quick positive messages go a really long way for our teachers and all of us! Thank you all for the ongoing partnership. Above all, I wish you good health.

    Take good care,
    Joanna Tobin, Principal

    Dear RGS Families,

We all miss you and hope you are doing well as we head into this third week of distance learning. As we all wrap our heads around this idea of not coming back together this year, we'd like to start to chip away at the end of the year to-do list. First, we have created a plan to return personal belongings to you while maintaining appropriate social distancing guidance. We also ask that you look around your homes for any RGS items, including sports uniforms. Should you find any, we ask that you please place it in a large ziplock, or see-through bag tied in a knot and return during one of the dedicated times below. We are placing student belongings (from lockers, cubbies and desks) in garbage bags labeled with students' last names and will have them organized and available by grade level on the dates below. If these days and times do not work for you, please contact Suzanne Bevier at sbevier@riverdale.k12.or.us to arrange for another time. To pick up items, please swing through the south parking lot (typical pick-up lot near the playground) between the hours of 9 a.m. to 12 a.m. We will have a staff member there to assist.

Grades and Dates for Pick-up of Personal Items:

    • 8th Grade April 17th
    • 7th Grade April 24th
    • 6th Grade May 1st
    • 5th Grade May 8th
    • 4th Grade May 15th
    • 3rd Grade May 22nd
    • 2nd Grade May 29th
    • 1st Grade June 5th
    • Kindergarten and Preschool June 12th

Additionally, I would like to take the opportunity to assure all of your students they will be moving on to the next grade for the 2020-2021 school year. If your student is a fifth grader, for example, they will start school when we return as a 6th grader. Our teachers are working hard to prioritize standards and items needed to cover this spring. We will meet students where they are at academically in the fall and have confidence this will be okay. I believe our students will come back to us with new strengths. This is a very challenging time, and we can get through this together. I welcome your continued partnership in this delivery of instruction and feedback as we all are in this together. Wishing you all above all good health.

    Take good care,

    Joanna Tobin
