Riverdale Grade School News

I hope you’re all able to stay safe and warm as we traverse another unexpected challenge together. I know the storm has impacted many families, including myself as I’m still without power, and I hope everyone is doing OK given the circumstances. We’re continuing our return to learn planning and are excited to expand out LIPI services next week. Please keep supporting one another, and let us know how we can help.
Stay safe. We’re in this together.

1st-4th Grade Hybrid Surveys

Reminder to 1st-4th grade families: Please fill out the grade level surveys that were emailed to you on Friday. Due to power outages, we've extended the deadline to this Friday, Feb. 19.

On-Site Health & Safety Measures

Safety continues to remain at the center of the state’s guidance. The safety requirements and protocols within Ready Schools, Safe Learners are mandatory. There is a lengthy list of requirements we are implementing, these include:
  • Entry screening at the entrance of every school
  • Contact tracing sign-in for COVID protocol
  • Facemasks (except for medical need/disability) for all students and adults
  • Isolation spaces for symptomatic individuals
  • Social distancing: 35-square feet per person to allow for physical distancing
  • Establishing stable cohorts or groupings of students in order to:
    • Minimize the number of cohorts with which a student interacts
    • Ensure that students do not interact with more than 100 people in a week, including deliberate scheduling, grouping and more restricted movement on campuses
  • More rigorous cleaning protocols, including hand sanitizer availability
  • Improved air-quality measures (including upgraded HVAC filters and air purifiers in spaces without good ventilation)
  • Reinforcement of recommended public health and good hygiene practices, and reinforcement via messaging, posters and signage

Reporting when students are sick

When your child is sick and they cannot attend school in person or during CDL, the Health Dept. is requesting to know a little more information about the symptoms they are having. When you call the office, or email us at, please remember to include what your child's symptoms are e.g., fever, cough, headache, stomach ache, runny nose, nausea or vomiting. If necessary, you also might receive a call from the office asking a few more questions. Thank you for your help with this.

Reporting students who are medically fragile

Even though many students are not yet in the building at this time, we still need to know about health conditions. Below is the link to MESD's health condition portal, which not only makes things easier to access for parents but also assists us in getting their medical documentation facilitated during this time. If you already completed this at the beginning of the school year, you do not need to do it again.
Using this portal, parents can find the medical documents and forms that we need from them depending on their child's health condition(s). The portal has five options, Asthma, Diabetes, Seizure Disorder, Severe Allergic Reaction and Other. Using these categories, parents will be able to navigate and find their required forms as it relates to their child's health condition.
The portal has contact information for help navigating and using the portal if parents come across any difficulties while using it.
After a parent has selected their student's relevant health condition(s), they can download, print and fill out the forms. They are given the option of being able to scan and email them to the schools themselves, or send them to
Parents can also contact and work with their school about the possibility of receiving the required documents physically at the school and turning them in physically at the school as well. If there are any questions about the documentation process, parents are more than welcome to email the school nurse Nicholas Jacobs at

COVID-19 Tracking

Even while in CDL, please contact our schools if your student(s) have tested positive for COVID-19, have a household member who has tested positive for COVID-19, or have been notified that they are a close contact of a known case of COVID-19. We thank you in advance for helping us in this process and wish you all good health and safety.
