Riverdale High School News

Hello Everyone,
Every year that I spend in education, the spring seems to go by at an ever-faster pace. Looking back and wondering how we are past March, and most of the way through April, this year is no different. It seems it’s been a blink of an eye since we got back from spring break, and yet graduation is now right around the corner. This time in the school year is always busy, but remains my favorite. The push to complete the year's learning, the plans to celebrate our graduates, and the planning to bring it all back together in the fall coexist in a rush of work and anticipation that makes the time fly by.
Recently, I was able to attend the PTC’s Starlight Gala and their Paddle Raise event. The enjoyable atmosphere of the gala was highlighted by the generosity shown toward our schools and the camaraderie of people coming together for the good of children. Our high school benefits tremendously from that generosity.
Last year’s Paddle Raise benefited our science departments, allowing them to modernize with new digital measuring tools and the resources to teach our students using modern techniques that they will see in college and the workplace. This year, the generosity is directed toward our A/V and technology hardware needs. These are some of the most regularly used and highly necessary components in a modern school, and the upgrades are a high need area for us. The PTC is very close to their $86,000 goal, and would love to meet it. If you would still like to donate, please visit this link before April 30.
Thanks to all who donate, you keep our students and staff supplied with the necessities for the best modern education.

Principal, Riverdale High School

Model United Nations

MUN has ended for the year. They had a great time debating global issues at the state conference last week and look forward to returning to the University of Oregon for next year's 75th anniversary conference! The secretariat (state-level student leaders) and executive board are planning some special events to celebrate the anniversary.

Want to get involved?

- Country drafts are April 28th. If you have ideas for what countries you would like to represent next year, share them with Mrs. Hansen or a MUN student delegate.
- Consider forecasting for the Model UN Class next year. Get all the prep-work required to attend the conference done during the school day!
- They will also have regular club meetings next year for students who want to participate in MUN as an extra-curricular. Those meetings will be used to prep for the conference, plan their trip and fundraise.
- Try it out! There are low-pressure fall and winter mini-conferences that allow you to see what MUN is all about.
Remember, MUN is FUN!

Food Drive Donations Needed!

RHS is hosting a food drive for the Oregon Food Bank from April 4-28. We are looking for non-perishable, boxed, and canned foods in particular. The donation boxes will be in the lobby and there will be one in Ms. Keldorf's room. Please bring as much food as you can! If you have any questions, please contact Truly Martin or Layla Rosenthal directly.
