Principal for the Day

Mr. Jarvis was a pleasure to have in charge today. Two donuts and many meetings later, he had a great day and experienced many aspects of our school, including announcements on the loudspeaker, recess duty, teacher observations and feedback, working with students, problem-solving, a meeting with a parent, and student and staff support. He is a special kid, and I can't wait to see what he does in life.
Thank you for supporting our school.

Jakob and Sala Kryszek Art & Writing Competition Awards

The annual Jakob and Sala Kryszek Art & Writing Competition for middle and high school students encourages youth to evaluate history, foster an awareness of the Holocaust, and broaden their minds in the areas of art, history, civics, sociology, and literature. For the competition, students are presented with a prompt that becomes their cue to create a piece of writing or a work of art. The prompts for the contest provide an opportunity for students to consider the circumstances in which a situation like the Holocaust can occur.
Congratulations to the following students on their awards:
  • Everly M. - To the Moon and Stars and Back - Grand Prize winner in the art category
  • Kate V. - Reflection - First Prize in the writing category
  • Matt M. - No Escape - Second Prize in the art category
  • Stella G. - The Art of Repetition - Third Prize in the writing category

Grade School Dance

Hello 8th Grade Families!
8th Grade Leadership is planning a school dance for 8th Grade students as a fundraiser for our promotion and class gift.
The dance will take place on Friday, May 20 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Riverdale Grade School Gym.
Permissions slips will be sent home with all 8th Grade students next week as well as more details about the dance and opportunities for adult volunteers. The dance costs $10 for each student. If your child needs scholarship funds in order to attend, that can be arranged.

Riverdale Grade School Book Swap

Dear Riverdale Grade School Families,
We are excited to inform you about the upcoming Book Swap. It will be held at the RGS Library. Students will have the opportunity to bring in gently-used books to donate. We will also be collecting CD’s and adult books. For every three books a student donates, they get a ticket to get another book.
If you’re not able to bring in books you can purchase them instead. Paperbacks are fifty cents, and hardbacks are sold for one dollar. If you choose to buy a book, then the money collected will be donated to a local organization. The money will be also used to buy books and purchase classroom materials.
The event will be from May 16th to the 20th. You can start to bring your books to the library to donate a week before the event. You can either bring the books before school, after school, and also during library time. Any leftover books after the book exchange ends will either be donated or distributed around the school.
This event should be very enjoyable for our students as well as beneficial for the RGS community!
Thank you,
7th Grade Leadership Club

Latest COVID-19 Info

"On May 2 the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention moved Multnomah County into the medium COVID-19 community risk category, meaning that more COVID-19 is circulating in our community. Locally, we have seen an expected increase in COVID-19 cases and an incremental increase in hospitalizations. We are not at the same level of community transmission or hospitalizations as we were with the last two waves of COVID-19. However, we are seeing an increase in school outbreaks, as school transmission is driven by community transmission. Additionally, in the last several weeks we have seen cases and outbreaks of other illnesses in schools and the community including pertussis and norovirus."

Return COVID tests

Please return any extra OHSU saliva Covid-19 testing kits. You will need five more after this week if you plan to test every week left in the school year. So anything beyond five tests per child, please return!
Please return any kits for students who have had Covid-19 within the last 90 days.
Please contact if you did not receive May tests and/or labels and need them.
