Riverdale High School News

Hello Everyone,
Just a quick note this week that you will be receiving reports for any students that took our state tests last year. For our RHS students that means our Seniors and Freshman should be receiving reports from last year if you took the tests at Riverdale. If you have any questions, please reach out to us and we will help you.
Another quick highlight… Please participate in the community ThoughtExchange surveys below. We want to know what you would like to see for the future of our schools. The more community involvement we receive, the better we will be able to meet the needs of our community going forward. Please contribute.
Hope you all get out and enjoy some of our Homecoming festivities this week!
Bart Hawkins (he/him/his)
Principal, RHS

Merit Scholar Semifinalists

Two Riverdale High School Seniors have been selected as semifinalists for the National Merit Scholarship: Aeneas W. and Zinnia P.
  • The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955.
  • High school students who meet program entry and participation requirements may enter the program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) at the specified time in the high school program, usually as juniors.
  • In early September, students are notified if they have qualified as semifinalists.
  • Semi Finalists are designated on a state-representational basis and are the highest scoring entrants in each state.
  • To be considered for a National Merit Scholarship, semifinalists must advance to finalist standing in the competition by meeting high academic standards as well as all other requirements.
  • In February, semifinalists are notified that they have advanced to finalist standing.
  • High School principals are also notified and provided with a Certificate of Merit to present to each finalist.
  • Winners are chosen from the finalist group based on their abilities, skills and accomplishments.

RHS Back-to-School Night

Coming up on September 28 will be the RHS Back-to-School Night. This is a chance for all parents and caregivers to come see what’s going on at the high school this fall. There will be a chance for you to follow your student’s schedule and hear from all their teachers. Following that, there will be time for you to check out other aspects of the school. There will be information from our clubs, athletics and a chance to chat with teachers not on your student’s current schedule as well. Doors will open at 6 p.m. with PTC hosting a social until 6:30, and the BTS Night portion will run from 6:30 - 8 p.m. We hope to see you there.

Fall Blood Blood Drive

On Tuesday, October 4th from 8:30 to 2:30 everyone who is 16 and older can donate blood in the gym. Make sure to sign up beforehand using the QR code or contact Jules Kennedy at Masks are required and refreshments will be offered.

REMINDER: Community Input Needed

ThoughtExchanges for Updating Strategic Plan

The district is asking for your input through ThoughtExchange surveys and will share out the results of what we’ve learned. There are five separate exchanges that we’re asking our entire community to complete. These exchanges will close on Friday, Sept 30.

Conference Survey Results

Thank you to everyone who completed the survey. We received almost 300 responses with about 70% selecting remote conferences. We look forward to offering virtual RGS and RHS conferences on Oct. 13 and 14. More information will be communicated soon on how to access these conferences.
