Warriors’ player discovered love of chess at Riverdale Grade School

The Warriors’ Klay Thompson has a long-time love of chess. In fact, his fascination with the game started with a 7th-grade chess elective at Riverdale Grade School.

His teacher, Carl Haessler – a local securities broker who is also a United States Chess Federation Life Master and five-time Oregon state champion – was focused on teaching his students how to think rather than what to think.
