Riverdale grad helps improve body armor for the US Army

Posted on Oct. 30, 2018

Thanks in part to one Riverdale graduate, future American soldiers will be better protected in combat by stronger and lighter body armor.

Joshua Pelz, Riverdale class of 2013, is now a materials science and engineering doctoral candidate at the University of California San Diego. This summer, he worked alongside other materials science engineers at the U.S. Army Research Laboratory at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, on innovative work that uses nature as the inspiration for breakthroughs in additive manufacturing.

In this article from the US Army, you'll learn more about the composite ceramic armor Josh created using a custom 3-D printer he designed.
