RSD Leadership message regarding Gov. Brown's announcement

Published Jan. 6, 2021

Dear Riverdale Community,
Following Gov. Brown’s announcement on December 23rd, we understand that many of you have questions. Please know we are in contact with ODE, other districts and the Governor’s office as more details are being rolled out.
Yesterday afternoon, Oregon Superintendents met with Colt Gill, Director of the Oregon Department of Education, to discuss the Governor's announcement. Together with our District Leadership Team, I share this message to outline key points to illustrate that our district does not have the go-ahead to return to in-person learning at this time. Let's pave a path for us to work fiercely together toward that end. Let me state on behalf of all of us and our School Boardwe all want to be back in person safely and as soon as possible.

Key points shared yesterday:

  • Gov. Brown is expected to make another announcement this Friday
  • Guidance is being revised/written by ODE presently for districts to follow
  • New metrics are coming out potentially by January 19th
  • The role of local public health authorities is being reviewed
We continue to work with Jill Vogt, Educational Consultant, as we adapt our plans with the ever-changing guidance and conditions. As a small district, the impact is unique with every version of the guidance. Moving forward, the Instruction Planning Team will continue to provide input, and the Leadership Team will review and propose plans in collaboration with the School Board. We will be reaching out to you in the near future to share additional information and get more input from you on returning to learn.
Here's what we need your help with at this time.
Parent PPE/Safety Review Leaders for RHS and for RGS - What does this mean? As you know, safeguarding health and safety in our return to in-person learning is a critical priority. We welcome parent leadership in the form of a parent-led committee, in collaboration with Principals, to review and provide recommendations on how to maximize the health and safety of our staff and students. Documents for review include school Blueprints and ODE guidance to ensure we have done all we can to create the best access to Personal Protective Equipment and safety protocols for staff and students. Please email our Principals if you are interested in supporting or leading this effort.
This coming Monday, we will review the above information along with any developments from this week at the Board Work Study and as we work together as a Leadership Team and School Board along with help from all stakeholders. We recognize that people see different paths as we move forward. Let's take this moment to unite in Riverdale, to serve our students and ensure the well-being of everyone in our schools.
Take good care,
