I can’t believe we are in the second week of February already. We are celebrating  Black History Month using the theme Voices of Change. If you haven’t already, please check out the slideshow highlighting what is happening at RGS this month.

RGS Virtual Community Forum 

I will hold a community forum for RGS parents from 9-9:30 a.m. this Friday, Jan. 5 via GoToWebinar(GTW). I will review RGS K-4 hybrid plans and answer questions. If you cannot attend, there will be another session on Thursday, Feb. 11 from 5:15-6 p.m via GTW. During these meetings you’ll be able to participate in a ThoughtExchange to share your input and feedback.

Limited In-Person Instruction (LIPI)

Parents will receive a phone call notifying them that their student qualifies for phase one of LIPI. As stated in the Friday district eblast, Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) Teams are preparing to provide in-person support for identified students beginning the week of February 8th. RGS and RHS are poised to begin limited in-person instruction for a small number of students based on analysis of student data. We are using data points to inform steady and safe expansion of supports for individuals and small groups every 1-2 weeks per guidance.  
Limited In-Person Learning Phase-in beginning Feb. 8 Prioritized Stages (Mental Health, Academic, Social-Emotional Supports)
  • Acute Mental Health Interventions 
  • Academic Interventions, students who are critical/high priority 
  • Small group, grade level interventions (seniors, 9th grade social groups) 

TAG Tuesday

The Riverdale Grade School Talented and Gifted (TAG) Committee is hosting these webinar events each month for parents to learn more about Riverdale's TAG program. The next TAG Tuesday is Feb. 9 from 6-6:30 p.m. via GoToWebinar. The topic of this meeting will be Behavioral and Constitutional Differences.

Reporting when students are sick

When your child is sick and they cannot attend school in person or during CDL, the Health Dept. is requesting to know a little more information about the symptoms they are having. When you call the office, or email us at, please remember to include what your child's symptoms are e.g., fever, cough, headache, stomach ache, runny nose, nausea or vomiting. If necessary, you also might receive a call from the office asking a few more questions. Thank you for your help with this.

Reporting students who are medically fragile 

Even though students are not yet in the building at this time, we still need to know about health conditions. Below is the link to MESD's health condition portal, which not only makes things easier to access for parents but also assists us in getting their medical documentation facilitated during this time. If you already completed this at the beginning of the school year, you do not need to do it again. 
Using this portal, parents can find the medical documents and forms that we need from them depending on their child's health condition(s). The portal has five options, Asthma, Diabetes, Seizure Disorder, Severe Allergic Reaction and Other. Using these categories, parents will be able to navigate and find their required forms as it relates to their child's health condition. 
The portal has contact information for help navigating and using the portal if parents come across any difficulties while using it. 
After a parent has selected their student's relevant health condition(s), they can download, print and fill out the forms. They are given the option of being able to scan and email them to the schools themselves, or send them to
Parents can also contact and work with their school about the possibility of receiving the required documents physically at the school and turning them in physically at the school as well. COVID-19 Tracking 

Please contact our schools if your student(s) have tested positive for COVID-19, have a household member who has tested positive for COVID-19, or have been notified that they are a close contact of a known case of COVID-19. 
Even while in Comprehensive Distance Learning, it is now the expectation that to the greatest extent possible, all potential exposures of COVID-19 in district employees, students and contractors be reported to the district to ensure that precautionary steps can be taken to prevent the spread of this virus. There are two confidential forms and an internal process that should be filled out for any employees, contractors or visitors to the district who report that they have tested positive for COVID-19, report that they have a household member who has tested positive for COVID-19, or who report that they have been notified that they are a close contact of a known case of COVID-19.
