Riverdale High School News

Hello Everyone,
I hope this last message before the fall break finds you all well. I want to update you on a few things before we all take time to refresh and look forward to trimester 2 at the high school.
My first request is that you please understand that our teachers will be taking a break, and that many things in our gradebooks may not be fully updated until Monday, November 22. After that, if you have questions or concerns, please hold them until Monday, November 29, when there will be time to address them. Our teachers have worked tirelessly to provide a fantastic educational environment for our students this fall, and as such they are deserving of a restful break. While StudentVUE and ParentVUE will remain on during the break, I have asked them not to respond to student or parent questions or concerns until they return on the 29th. All students will be better off for it with our staff returning rested and ready to dive into trimester 2.
Another quick note is that students should have all schedule changes into the office by Tuesday, November 30 at the end of the day. We are trying to make sure that all students are listed in their permanent classes by the morning of the 3rd day. In the future, we will be planning to have all schedule changes done prior to the start of the actual trimester to reduce the disruption to classes, and make sure students are attending the right courses from day 1.
I would like to offer a big thank you to Christy Drogosch for her many years of service to the students of Riverdale. Christy has accepted a new position, and will be moving on with the completion of trimester 1. I wish her fulfillment and joy in her next journey. You will be missed at Riverdale. Along with that news, we have a new Spanish teacher starting in trimester 2, Bianca Sapp. Bianca comes to us with experience in Spanish teaching and administration, and is a welcome addition to our staff. Please extend her a warm welcome as she moves into her new role.
With that, I want to give a sincere thank you to all who have helped me settle into this new position. It has been exciting and wonderful, and I am thankful for the opportunity. I hope that everyone reading this has a reason to give thanks as many of us celebrate over the next week. Best wishes to everyone!
Sincerely,
Bart Hawkins he/him/his
Principal, Riverdale High School

Freshman College Night

Often students reach their junior or senior year only to realize that hindsight is 20/20—it would have helped then to know what they know now. We will touch on a number of these subjects: most particularly, grades, course selection, extracurriculars, and service-learning opportunities.

New Schedule Change Request Form

Request a schedule change using the blue button below.

Upon submission of the completed schedule change form, the form is dated and time stamped. The requests are processed in order of priority of the change needed, and then in order of receipt. It is important to complete the form as it will place students on a waitlist should availability open.

After turning in a schedule change form, students must continue to attend all classes listed on their schedules until there is an updated schedule in their StudentVUE account. Please remember to use your Riverdale email when filling out the form.

Apply for National Honors Society

Laura Keldorf is Riverdale High School's new National Honors Society faculty advisor. Our first priority is membership, and the Classes of 2022 and 2023 will have the opportunity to apply beginning Monday, November 29.
Juniors will receive application information in American Literature, and Seniors will receive application information in Economics during the first week of winter trimester.
Membership in National Honors Society, as dictated by the national governing body, is based upon four pillars, which include:

  • Scholarship
Per national guidelines, at a minimum, students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.50.
  • Service
This involves voluntary contributions made by a student to the school or community, done without compensation.
  • Leadership
Student leaders are those who are resourceful, good problem solvers, and idea contributors. Leadership experiences can be drawn from school or community activities while working with or for others.
  • Character
The student of good character is cooperative; demonstrates high standards of honesty and reliability; shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others; and generally maintains a clean disciplinary record.

Students who accept membership and are inducted into the chapter should be aware of the time and commitment involved with this honor. Officers and active members may also want to consider enrolling in the Organizational Leadership and Service class, which will be offered during both the winter and spring trimesters this year.
The Class of 2024 will have the opportunity to apply in the spring of 2022.
