Hello Everyone,
I hope that you all have plans for a warm and enjoyable winter break. I always enjoy the opportunity to have some time focused on family, and the winter break is such a great time for that. My message below is about what we’ll be focusing on with our return to school in January.  
Please be ready for students to return with a renewed focus on our COVID-19 protocols, including masking and hand sanitizing. There is some concern about how activities over break may lead to more cases, especially in light of the Omicron variant and the questions surrounding it. As a school and staff, we will focus on making sure that mask wearing is more strictly adhered to and more hand sanitizing occurs. Please help your students be ready for that as well.  
Anything that you can do as families to help us stay at the low transmission rates we are currently experiencing is helpful. Our community has been great about doing everything they can to keep transmission low, and we are seeing the success of that in the students in our hallways. It is my sincere hope that we continue that success in January. We will monitor test results as we come back, and if positive cases remain low, we hope to continue our gradual reopening to the public and increase our ability to host more activities inside and outside of the school. Everything you do to help is appreciated.  
I hope you all have a great break, and that everyone gets some time to pursue interests and see family and friends. See you in the New Year!

BINGO is BACK

This week, we were thrilled to bring back the RHS tradition of schoolwide bingo during the advisory before winter break. Mrs. Hansen and her advisory students gave away over 70 weird and wonderful prizes donated by RHS staff. Highlights included a pair of taco socks, a singing cow, and a 999 (formerly 1000) piece puzzle. Advisory bingo is also a service project raising money for the Oregon Food Bank. RHS students donated $210 to support the food bank while having fun and building community.

RHS is pleased to be offering an in-person event on Wednesday, Jan. 26 from 6-7:30 p.m. for prospective current 8th grade families interested in attending RHS next year. It is open to in-district and out-of-district students and caregivers/parents. Families must register in advance to attend. Registration closes January 19 at 5 p.m. Please note that due to COVID-19, we ask that families bring a limited number of attendees with them. 
Attendee groups will be split up to tour the building and visit classrooms. Students and teachers will be available to answer your questions and talk about their RHS experiences. 
Masks are required. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative covid test within the last 72 hours will be checked at the door.
In the event we need to cancel this event or transition to a virtual format due to COVID-19 restrictions or inclement weather, we will send information to the email you used to register.

The U.S. Surgeon General’s Advisory

A Surgeon General’s Advisory is a public statement that calls the American people’s attention to an urgent public health issue and provides recommendations for how it should be addressed. Advisories are reserved for significant public health challenges that need the nation’s immediate awareness and action. 
This Advisory offers recommendations for supporting the mental health of children, adolescents, and young adults. While many of these recommendations apply to individuals, the reality is that people have widely varying degrees of control over their circumstances. As a result, not all recommendations will be feasible for everyone. 
That’s why systemic change is essential. The Advisory includes essential recommendations for the institutions that surround young people and shape their day-to-day lives—schools, community organizations, health care systems, technology companies, media, funders and foundations, employers, and government. They all have an important role to play in supporting the mental health of children and youth.
