New Student Board Member - Abby Zurasky

Please join us in welcoming RHS junior Abby Zurasky as the student representative to the Riverdale School Board - RSD’s first-ever student board member. Elected by the RHS student body, Abby is able to cast a preferential vote on all topics discussed at regular board meetings and brings a student perspective to the board. She will attend and participate at each board meeting until the end of the year.

School Board Recognition Month!

The district would like to thank each of our board members for their tireless service to the district. Your dedication to RSD is extremely valuable and greatly appreciated. We encourage our community to take the time in January to thank your elected school board members for charting the future of our students and communities. Thank you Jeff Dominitz, Kevin McPherson, Joe Prats, Michele Rosenbaum and Carrie Spurlock for all that you do.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service

January 17th is a federal holiday that honors the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
While many of us know his famous, “I Have a Dream,” speech, I encourage you to take some time on this holiday to learn more about his broader work. For example, have you read/viewed his speech “The Other America” or learned about the “Poor People’s Campaign?” Did you know that MLK’s views were considered radical in his lifetime, with two-thirds of Americans viewing him unfavorably in the years before his death? Let’s honor his legacy by moving past popular quotes and towards a deeper understanding of his dream.
MLK day is unique in that the intention of the holiday is not a “day off,” but rather, a “day on.” The purpose of the day is service, learning, and community. There are many volunteer and celebratory events happening in the Portland Metro Area. View the list here
