Field Studies Fun

We are overjoyed to have students back on field trips this spring. Last week our 7th and 8th graders explored Indian Beach Trail, visited Portland’s OMSI & Oregon Jewish Museum and toured Lan Su Gardens.
This week our 6th graders are on adventurous outdoor day trips to Mount St. Helens and Outdoor School at Camp Collins. Tomorrow they will view a hydro dam-created reservoir, hike to see a waterfall, and explore under the surface of the earth to see a 1900 year-old lava tube cave (the longest cave of its kind in the contiguous 48 states).

Special Education Meetup

This meetup is for parents with children on IEPs, 504s, and those interested in knowing more about individualized learning plans. The event is hosted by Michele Rossolo at her home 1520 S. Mary Failing Drive.

Riverdale Grade School Book Swap

Dear Riverdale Grade School Families,
We are excited to inform you about the upcoming Book Swap. It will be held at the RGS Library. Students will have the opportunity to bring in gently-used books to donate. We will also be collecting CD’s and adult books. For every three books a student donates, they get a ticket to get another book.
If you’re not able to bring in books you can purchase them instead. Paperbacks are fifty cents, and hardbacks are sold for one dollar. If you choose to buy a book, then the money collected will be donated to a local organization. The money will be also used to buy books and purchase classroom materials.
The event will be from May 16th to the 20th. You can start to bring your books to the library to donate a week before the event. You can either bring the books before school, after school, and also during library time. Any leftover books after the book exchange ends will either be donated or distributed around the school.
This event should be very enjoyable for our students as well as beneficial for the RGS community!

Thank you,
7th Grade Leadership Club

The dance will take place on Friday, May 20 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Riverdale Grade School Gym.
The dance costs $10 for each student. If your child needs scholarship funds in order to attend, that can be arranged.

Jakob and Sala Kryszek Art & Writing Competition Awards

The annual Jakob and Sala Kryszek Art & Writing Competition for middle and high school students encourages youth to evaluate history, foster an awareness of the Holocaust, and broaden their minds in the areas of art, history, civics, sociology, and literature. For the competition, students are presented with a prompt that becomes their cue to create a piece of writing or a work of art. The prompts for the contest provide an opportunity for students to consider the circumstances in which a situation like the Holocaust can occur.
Congratulations to the following students on their awards:
  • Annie D. History Repeats Itself - Second Prize in the writing category
  • Everly M. - To the Moon and Stars and Back - Grand Prize winner in the art category
  • Kate V. - Reflection - First Prize in the writing category
  • Matt M. - No Escape - Second Prize in the art category
  • Stella G. - The Art of Repetition - Third Prize in the writing category
