Riverdale High School News

Hello Everyone,
Happy November! There is a lot going on at RHS this month. Here’s a couple things to know about.
The RHS Open House for prospective students is tonight. It sounds like we will have a great turnout, and I look forward to seeing our prospective students. We continue to bring timely activities, such as a Fall Open House and Shadow Days to let students see how great our school is. Please pass the word about our great school since we continue to need a few more students to fill the halls. We have a natural limit of around 250 students for our building, so there is no reason to worry about overcrowding if there is too much interest - don’t be afraid to let folks know about us. A great way to do that is by sharing our Annual Report, available here. Shadow Days and individual tours will continue into the new year, so there is plenty of opportunity to still see the school even after the Open House.
Our soccer teams continue their seasons after two big wins in the state playoffs this week. Congrats to both teams and good luck on Saturday (11/5) in the next round. Girls Soccer will play at Valley Catholic at 2:30 p.m., and Boys Soccer will play Delphian/Willamina at Lewis & Clark at 5 p.m.
And finally (terrible pun intended), we are just one week away from Finals Week. Parents, please help your students get ready by making sure they are caught up in all classes and prepared for any tests. Be aware that incompletes will only be given for students that have had extenuating circumstances that prevented them from being able to complete the class on time, such as extended illness or family emergency in the last week or two before finals. Please help your students be ready to close the first trimester on a strong note!
With that, have a great stormy weekend!

RHS Jazz Band is Back

All instruments are welcome. This enrichment course covers the study and performance of swing, latin, funk and rock styles with an emphasis on advanced rhythmic concepts. Students need at least two years playing experience on their instrument and will go through an audition process. Knowledge of concert B flat, E flat and F scales and arpeggios would be a big plus. Rehearsals will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:20-8:20 a.m.
Sign up now! Contact Timothy Bryson at with any questions or for more information.

New Drama Teacher

We look forward to welcoming our new drama teacher, Rachel Warren, to Riverdale High School. She will direct two plays: one in January/February and one in April/May. There will be an informational meeting the week of November 14-18th. We are finalizing the date and time, and will have more information soon, including how to sign up to participate.

REMINDER: Due Nov. 15

AP Testing

This year, students, especially juniors and seniors, may be interested in a number of particular tests: AP Calc AB, AP US Government and Politics, AP Biology, and AP English Language and Composition. If you haven’t already had the conversation and think that you may be interested in one of these tests, talk to your teacher who covers that particular subject. Students interested specifically in AP English Language should talk with Robert Lovvorn, Riverdale’s College Counselor.

To register for an AP exam, students should head over to College Board’s My AP website. If a student does not already have a College Board account, they will have to create one. Once one has an account, one will be able to register for a specific test using Riverdale’s list of AP Join Codes. If you are having trouble figuring out how to register, College Board provides detailed instructions for Joining an AP Class Section and Registering for an Exam.
Registration must be completed by November 15th, 2022. The cost for each exam is $97, and there is a required non-refundable deposit of $40, which will be used to cover any cancellation fees. Students who wish to register for a test after this date are assessed an additional $40 late fee. Late registration is available until March.

The deposit for these exams is due by November 15th. Directions are provided on the Riverdale AP Testing Agreement, which must also be turned in with the deposit. A separate AP Testing Agreement and deposit must be turned in for each test a student chooses to take.
Final Payments: Must be submitted by March. Students who wish to submit their payment in full by the November 15th deadline may do so.
