Staffing changes for science and humanities

Posted on Nov. 8, 2018

Science:

Ms. LePore is retiring at the end of this trimester, after 21 years of service to Riverdale High School. We hope you’ll join us in wishing her the very best as she embarks on the next chapter of her dynamic life. Here is how her science classes will be handled for the rest of the year:

  • For Trimester 2, Kevin Vukovich will be serving as our science teacher, presenting our standard Zoology curriculum for juniors. Mr. Vukovich is a Riverdale alum (class of 2008) who took Zoology with Ms. LePore when he was a student. He is a graduate of the University of Oregon and Concordia University, is a certified teacher with an endorsement in biology, and has worked previously as a long-term substitute and tutor at Riverdale. Mr. Vukovich is a familiar presence, knows many juniors, and understands the ethos and practices of the high school. He says, “Zoology class will be the same one that students have heard about and looked forward to.”
  • In Trimester 3, Freshman Science will be divided into four-week sections taught by our three science teachers.
  • Our biology curriculum will be redesigned before the next school year, and a permanent replacement will be hired during the spring to begin in the fall.

Humanities:

For the remainder of this year, at the request of the teachers, Michael Johnson will return to full-time status, adding War & Literature and History of Portland to the schedule, as well as teaching Freshman History in Trimester 2 and English 10B in Trimester 3. Janice Olguin will be reducing her hours to work a .75 schedule and will be teaching Sophomore History for Trimesters 2 and 3.
