Girls’ basketball: league champions, team of the month and sportsmanship nomination

For the first time, the Riverdale girls’ basketball team is the 3A Lewis & Clark League and District Tournament Champions! The team boasted a perfect league record of 12-0, with an overall record of 21-1. The Mavericks took on Oregon Episcopal School on Feb. 16 and, for the first time, won the League Championship game, with a score of 51-39. This solidified their home court advantage for the first round of the OSAA playoffs, which began on Feb. 23 with the No. 6 Mavericks hosting No. 11 Vale High Schoool. While ultimately defeated in the OSAA Playoffs, we are still incredibly pround of this team's record-setting achievement this season.

The girls’ basketball team has also been selected as the 3A recipient of the Les Schwab Team of the Month award for January. The team will receive a commemorative trophy and $100 will be donated to the team's program, courtesy of Les Schwab Tires. The winning teams will also be celebrated by the their local Les Schwab Tires store. Winners will also be announced on the OSAA website and across OSAA social media platforms.

We’re especially proud to announce that the girls’ basketball team was also nominated for the OSAA Sportsmanship Award – a recognition program that gives officials the opportunity to highlight the positive sportsmanship they see on the court. Each program receiving a nomination will be eligible to receive the OSAA Sportsmanship Award for their activity, which includes 100 OSAA Cup points for their school. In a recent contest, Maverick girls’ basketball “exhibited the great qualities that the OSAA looks for in teams, programs, and communities across the state, and your game official noticed!”
