Riverdale Grade School News

Published Oct. 28

I want to thank all of our parents for the tremendous turnout for virtual conferences. The feedback around conferences from parents and staff has been overwhelmingly positive and supportive. I appreciate the strong partnership between teachers and parents during this unusual school year.

This last week of October brings out the spooky and fun costumes of goblins, pirates, princesses and more. I am excited for students and families to see some familiar faces in our virtual Staff Halloween Costume Showcase.

We are better together. Stay positive,

Interim Principal Kendall

The Riverdale Grade School Gratitude Gallery

What is the Riverdale Grade School Gratitude Gallery?

This Gratitude Gallery will be an outdoor exhibit located in the front of Riverdale Grade School. During this time while we are physically distanced, this project connects us and represents what we as individuals and as a community are thankful for. The power of community and connection is needed right now. Individual gratitude signs are fantastic and when all 400 of our signs are displayed together it becomes a powerful reminder that we are in this together and remain connected. I invite, want and encourage all students and staff to be represented in this exhibit by decorating a yard sign that will be displayed to create the Riverdale Grade School Gratitude Gallery. The sign can be an individual student creation or a family project.

Each student will decorate a yard sign using permanent markers, crayons or colored pencils (waterproof) representing what they are grateful for. The signs will be displayed in the front of the school from Nov. 16 through Nov. 30.

Blank yard signs will be included in the monthly packet pick up (9 a.m. - 3p.m.).

Monday, November 2                         Kindergarten, 1st grade and 2nd grade

Tuesday, November 3                         3rd grade and 4th grade

Wednesday, November 4                   5th grade and 6th grade

Thursday, November 5                       7th grade and 8th grade

Decorated signs are due prior to Friday, Nov. 13.

Decorated signs can be left outside the grade school’s front door any school day before Nov. 13. Signs will be brought into the building each day at 4 p.m. If pick up or drop off creates an inconvenience or hardship, please contact the office and we will make arrangements to help.

The signs will be recycled when the project is completed.

Registration for Virtual Sport Season (5th-8th grade) is now open

To participate in virtual sports, students must have a completed physical on file, have their fee(s) paid and have a minimum 2.0 GPA. They are allowed to sign up for two activities per season, as is the norm even under normal operating circumstances. Only the VIRTUAL season will be available to select on FamilyID.

We look forward to providing the opportunity for teams to socialize and connect with their teammates and coaches. Coaches will provide skill-building opportunities for student athletes to do at home. These opportunities will be pushed out through Google Classroom with times to connect virtually as a team. It will also allow for coaches to easily and effectively communicate information about the seasons if changes occur.
