Updates: CDL, Covid-19 Reporting and Safety Reminders, and RGS/RHS Calendars

Updates from the state

As part of its planned guidance and metrics review process, the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) released an update to the Ready Schools, Safe Learners guidance, including updated metrics for returning to in-person instruction. The metrics are based on the latest COVID-19 studies and data, align to CDC recommendations, are in line with standards in other states like California and help Oregon meet its priority to return students to in-person instruction.

What does this mean for Riverdale?

Riverdale needs to follow the metrics of three countries: Multnomah, Washington and Clackamas. With Multnomah County still not meeting the metrics for a safe return to in-person instruction, Riverdale is required to remain in comprehensive distance learning for the immediate future. We will continue to review the data on a weekly basis with these new guidelines. As we received the updated guidance today, we are still reviewing.
Key changes to the metrics include:
  • A clear set of reachable targets for communities to strive for, with a North Star of returning Oregon students to in-person instruction.
  • Acknowledgement that Oregon’s Ready Schools, Safe Learners guidance’s strong public health protocols in structured settings like schools, can greatly reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19.
  • Time for schools to transition between in-person and distance learning models.
  • Increased access to in-person instruction at the elementary level.
  • A two Week “Look Back” at the Metrics Data rather than one week at a time over a three week period.
  • Removes State Positivity Rate in favor of county positivity rates.
“These metrics depend on the public doing its part to reduce Oregon’s case rates so that all of our children can return to in-person instruction,” Colt Gill said. “Oregonians can reduce spread and send our kids back to school by wearing a face covering, maintaining distance, washing hands frequently, and avoiding group gatherings.”

Riverdale Covid-19 Tracking Forms and Process

Even while in Comprehensive Distance Learning, it is now the expectation that to the greatest extent possible, all potential exposures of COVID-19 in district employees, students and contractors be reported to the district ensure that precautionary steps can be taken to prevent the spread of this virus. There are two confidential forms and an internal process that should be filled out for any employees, contractors or visitors to the district who report that they have tested positive for COVID-19, report that they have a household member who has tested positive for COVID-19, or who report that they have been notified that they are a close contact of a known case of COVID-19.
Please contact our schools per the above guidance if your student(s) have tested positive for COVID-19, have a household member who has tested positive for COVID-19, or have been notified that they are a close contact of a known case of COVID-19. We thank you in advance for helping us in this process and wish you all good health and safety.

Register for Virtual Athletics

There is still time to register! To participate in virtual sports, students must have a completed physical on file, have their fee(s) paid and have a minimum 2.0 GPA. They are allowed to sign up for two activities per season, as is the norm even under normal operating circumstances. Only the VIRTUAL season will be available to select on FamilyID.
We look forward to providing the opportunity for teams to socialize and connect with their teammates and coaches. Coaches will provide skill-building opportunities for student athletes to do at home. These opportunities will be pushed out through Google Classroom with times to connect virtually as a team. There may be a couple virtual Google Meet sessions that coaches with organize. It will also allow for coaches to easily and effectively communicate information about the seasons if changes occur.
