Riverdale High School News

Hello Everyone,
As we move through May, I would like to draw everyone’s attention toward maintaining vigilance around COVID protocols as we finish out the year. We have an outbreak happening currently that is affecting many students and families, and not just at our school. Other schools in the Portland area are seeing big increases in cases as well.
Please continue to follow these guidelines:
  • Do not send your kids to school if they are experiencing any of the main COVID symptoms. (Link here to symptom information)
  • While masking remains voluntary, the local public health department confirms that transmission of COVID has increased significantly in recent weeks. Please consider wearing a mask at school and at other places indoors.
  • Continue to practice social distancing and best practices regarding hygiene. Wash hands, use hand sanitizer, and whenever possible, keep at least 6 feet away from others.
Our intention, as always, is to keep our kids in school and maintain the healthiest environment possible. To do that, we need everyone to do their part and take appropriate action. Please help us by keeping your students home when they are sick.
Our teachers will be making efforts to adjust instruction appropriately to allow students missing school to receive the support necessary to maintain their academic performance. We are meeting today after school to discuss what that looks like. It is a complicated balancing act to make sure that students meet all necessary standards indicated in the course while we navigate the needs of this pandemic. As always, it is best for them to be in direct contact with their teachers to determine what needs to be done while they are out, and how to receive instructional support as they return.
Thank you to all of you for your continued support and engagement as we navigate the complexities of this pandemic. Please stay healthy!

Principal, Riverdale High School

Remembering and Honoring Carson Bride

Hello All,
I am Sam Veverka and I’m a member of No Place For Hate, a student leadership group dedicated to improving the culture at Riverdale High School. I would like to inform the community about a couple of events we are coordinating alongside Lines for Life during the week of May 23rd - 27th in honor of Carson Bride, a senior who would be graduating this year who died by suicide. Lines for Life is a non-profit organization created to tackle teen suicide prevention and substance abuse. They have a team full of trained teens ready to help those calling.

Donations Needed!

We are holding an auction and we need items to auction off! All proceeds of the auction will be donated to Lines for Life as this was a final request of Carson Bride. The goal of the auction is to make as much money as possible for Lines for Life. If you have anything you would like to donate personally or know someone who might have something to donate, let us know! Some ideas we have come up with include:
  • Gift Cards
  • Event Tickets (Timbers, concert, shows, movie passes)
  • Apparel (shoes, Nike gift card, employee store pass)
  • Fun experiences (cooking classes, creative classes, top golf, etc.)
  • Food (dinners, gift certificates, etc.)
  • Home Goods (plants, plant pots, nick-nacks, things that you would be willing to give away)
  • Self Care Basket Items (bubble bath, face masks, robes, etc…)
  • Adventure Goods (hydro flasks, backpacks, picnic blankets, etc.)
  • Private Lessons - Are you an expert in something that you would be willing to share?
