Riverdale High School News

Students worked with dry ice for a project in physics class today.
Hello Everyone,
My message this week is short and simple: Thank you all for the fantastic start to the school year! Myself and our staff are enjoying all of the positive attitudes being brought to school every day by our students. They have been nothing short of fantastic. Thank you to them, their caregivers and the community for helping us start the year off right.
Bart Hawkins, (he/him/his)
Principal, Riverdale High School

Honors Contract

The Honors Option is available to students in all core classes (English, Art, Science, History, Math, World Language) and some electives. RHS expects freshmen to attempt only one honors course during their first trimester.
The Honors Option encourages deeper thinking and provides opportunities to apply your learning in challenging ways. Honors will help students improve their ability to be self-directed, meet deadlines, and work independently. Honors work might include research, reading and writing, leadership and presentations, problem solving, scientific experimentation and investigation, community service, or independent projects.
Successful completion of Honors will be noted on a student’s transcript with an “H” next to their course grade. An H on the school transcript may be valuable in college admissions, as it indicates that a student has taken the most rigorous route for that course.
RHS fully supports students in taking on the challenge of the Honors Option. There is no penalty for students not completing the requirements. There will be nothing placed on a report card or transcript indicating that a student did not successfully complete the requirements. They simply will not have the “H” next to their grade. We do ask students and families to please let teachers know by the 5th week of the term if the student no longer wants to participate in the honors option.

SmartPass System

RHS has a hall pass system with kiosks in all rooms. Please familiarize yourselves with how to use it by watching the tutorial.
Please also be aware that we are going to check with students who are in the hallways to make sure they are on a pass from a classroom. Soon there will be consequences if students don't have a pass, such as a short lunch detention or after school detention. Eventually, pass privileges may be taken away from students that consistently abuse the privilege.

Sports Schedule

Do you have what it takes to be a top fan? Attend any 10 home games this season and be entered to win an amazing Maverick prize package. Grab a punch card from Athletic Director Derek Duman. At half-time bring your card to concessions and a staff member will punch it.
All events are listed on our athletics website under the Calendar tab

REMINDERS For Juniors and Seniors

College Info

On Friday, an email went out with a Google Calendar of future college visits. We've had another dozen universities sign up since that time, and many will continue to do so as the month goes on. There is a delay between colleges signing up for visits and that information syncing with Google. Ideally, they sort out that problem in the coming weeks, but in the meantime, it is important to note that you can get the most current list of visits in Naviance, which all of you should have set up last year. To find that info, sign into Naviance and go to "Colleges" > "College Visits".
