Community Meeting Notes- September 21st, 2022

1. Service Learning Opportunity- The PTC is looking for students to help at home games to sell concessions. Any interested students can email

2. Study Hall- Libby C.- Study Hall held every morning before school 8-9 AM. Honors Society peer tutors and IA are there to help with any subject. 

3. Red Cross- Jules K.- Please consider donating blood! Our blood drive will be 10/4 in the gym and anyone over 16 can sign up to donate. Service hours will be provided along with donuts and other refreshments. We need donors!

4. Register to Vote- Colin C.- Anybody with a valid drivers license in the State of Oregon is eligible to register to vote. This means whenever you turn 18, you'll automatically receive ballots. Go to to register today!

5. D&D Club- Thomas F.- D&D club is back! It is for anyone who enjoys playing or has an interest in learning Dungeons & Dragons- no prior experience needed. We will meet on Fridays during lunch in the library.

6. GSA- Saph L.- We are very happy with how many people showed up to our first couple of meetings. Right now, we're making some posters to get our club information out there and we hope to see you all in the coming weeks as we get together for some community events and informational presentations. If that interests you, make sure to stop by Mr. Thompson's room at lunch on Monday. See you there!

7. Multicultural Student Union- Supriya R.- MCSU is going to be meeting on Fridays during lunch in Mr. Thompson’s room! This week we will have an assortment of Asian snacks for club members! Everyone is welcome:) 

8. Chess Club- Eda D.- There is going to be Chess Club again this year in the library on Thursdays during lunch. You don't have to have any experience to join; it's really casual, but fun! 

9. Cross Country- Adeline C.- We have a meet today at Gabriel Park! Right after school come and see us run. Both teams will be participating and it is the closest meet we will have this season being only 10 minutes away. Meets are at 4pm, 5pm and 5:30pm

10. Environmental Club- Adeline C.- Come to the environmental club on Thursday during lunch in the biology room- we watch videos, create posters, and we may have snacks. 

11. Outdoor Club- Andrew L.- We’re meeting today at lunch in the Health/French room to talk about future activities like Smith Rock trip and future trips. 

12. It's Banned Books Week!- Mrs. Hansen- Every year the American Library Association and librarians nationwide observe Banned Books week in order to shine a light on censorship and celebrate our freedom to read and access information freely. There are tons of ways to get involved this week.

1. Trivia - there are new questions posted in the hallway outside the library daily. Turn in an answer slip for a small prize each day. All prize slips will be entered in a drawing for a grand prize at the end of the week.

2. Today after school we will stream a live event with Authors Angie Thomas (The Hate U Give) and Jerry Craft (New Kid) in the library. The authors will discuss the censorship of their works and implications for readers, authors, and the community.

3. "Dear Banned Author" - Friday during lunch drop by the library to write a physical or digital postcard to an author whose words have been meaningful to you.

4. Drop by the library any time to see our "Not Banned Here" display and exercise your right to read!

13. Nurse Info- K. Carroll- The school nurse is located at the desk next to Grace's front desk. Come by if you have any questions or if/when you feel sick. Reminder that you should stay home if you are not feeling well. If your family is sick but you are asymptomatic, you can come to school. If you have symptoms of fever, vomiting, or diarrhea, you have to remain home for 24 hours after those symptoms subside.
